Seven Khojgor and One Mojgor
This story is about eight brothers. However, the seven brothers, the Khojgors, always ignore one of them, Mojgor. Once, the seven Hojgors went to the house of one Mojgor, and since he was absent, they were waiting for him outside, while waiting they smoked and accidentally burned his house due to fire. When Mojgor is back home, he sadly takes all the ashes from his house and carries them in a bag in a crowded place. When people ask him what he is carrying, he answers it will disappear if you see it. Suddenly one rich salesman really wanted to see what was inside his bags and promised him to give gold if he showed it to him. Mojgor boy agreed and took some gold from him. So he was walking and thinking about buying a new house with his gold and accidentally met his seven brothers again. They asked him how he got all this gold, he answered “I sold the ashes of my burned house”. Then all seven Khojgor also burned their houses and took their ashes for sale. But none of them can’t sell the ashes, on the contrary people laughed at them. On the way back, Seven Khojgors killed Mojgor’s only one cow. While Mojgor was going to put blood on his cow’s hooves, he came across seven blue camels grazing, and he dyed them red with the blood of the cows. Then, while he was going, he met an old man and asked for seven blue camels. Mojgor said, “I didn’t see any blue camels. But the red camels are nearby,” and he “called them.” The old man, without permission, insisted that they must be blue camels. (It seems that there is no other family in that area that has camels other than the old man’s). So Mojgor said, “If it’s red, I’ll take it, if it’s blue, you take it.” The old man went and saw that there was a red camel, so he gave the camel to Mojgor. So, while Mojgor was still driving his camels, he met his brothers seven Khojgors. They asked him how he had gotten his camels. When Mojgor said that he had exchanged seven camels for the blood of his cow, the others believed him and mocked him all day, saying that they would kill their only milking cows and go to the market to exchange them for the blood of the camels. Then, in the evening, the seven hungry and exhausted Khojgors poisoned Mojgor’s wife and killed her. Mojgor went to the king, weeping and mourning, and praised his wife to the heavens. Mojgor put his dead wife’s body on the camel’s back with various things and went to the king’s house again. When Mojgor went to the king’s house, he stabbed the camel with a stick threw his wife’s body down, and cried out, “My dear wife has died in the king’s house.” The king was alarmed and gave Mojgor his most beautiful seamstress as a wife.” When the seven Khojgors saw that Mojgor had a younger and more beautiful wife than before, they asked him what had happened. He took his dead wife to the market and shouted that I would like to replace my wife who did not quarrel, did not eat or wear clothes, and always slept with a beautiful smile. Then all the men are in a hurry to exchange his wife with Mojgor and Mojgor chooses the most beautiful lady as a new wife of him.” Then the seven Khojgors rushed out in panic, killed their wives, went to the market, and shouted that they would like to replace her with a beautiful young queen but people got angry and beat them. Then the seven angry brothers decided to burn Mojgor to death, tied him to a tree, and went to collect dung. In the meantime, Mojgor met a rich old man with a bulging eye who was riding a horse. When he asked Mojgor why he was tied to a tree, Mojgor said that this is how his bulging eyes disappeared. The old man believed him and said, “You go and bring my horse, and I will tie here instead of you to let my eyes heal.” He gave Mojgor everything he had and tied him in his place. After Mojgor had taken everything from the old man, the seven Khojgors came and burned the rich old man to death. Then, happy to have killed Mojgor, they went back, only to find that Mojgor was going home.” Wondering that they asked what had happened, Mojgor, in a daze, said that he was going to the mermaid king to bring a gift. The seven brothers believed him and all of them ran into the sea to go to the mermaid king, where they drowned.
Water Crocodile
In ancient times, there was a great king of the eight continents. He built a glass house and locked his daughter in it so she would not be allowed to be close to humans and animals. The daughter kept looking at men and lusting after them, and when male and female organs began to grow on her body, she was ashamed of it and fell into the sea and became a creature called a crocodile. It is said that she became an insatiable creature by sucking and eating humans and animals due to her former great lust.
Golden and Silver Coins
A rich man named Namtai Mergen, who had eight hundred horses, was riding his horses when he met a monster woman. The monster woman asked him if he would give her eight hundred horses, her life, her wife, or her son. Namtai Mergen then decided to provide him with his son. Since he could not give it in front of his mother, if we moved, we would move for three years. Now, when we move, we will throw our son’s most beloved gold and silver coins on our yurt foundation and move. When he comes to get them, he says, “Take my son at that time.” So, when he had just arrived in the new land, the son had to return to get his gold and silver. When asked which horse to ride and which sheep to feed, his father said, “Ride a black horse with scabies and feed the leanest sheep.” But his mother said, “Ride an eight-legged horse and feed the fattest sheep.” He obeyed his mother’s orders, so he rode the eight-legged horse, fed the fattest sheep, and set off on his journey. So when he arrived at his old home, the monster was waiting for him. (She must have waited three years to eat his only child) When he went to get his coin, the horse said in human language, “Sweep my ankles as soon as you see me,” and the boy obeyed, snatching his coins and running away. The monster followed him, cutting off the eight legs of the eight-legged horse one by one with his sickle, and the horse galloped on its back, and when half of its body was cut off, it galloped on its chest, and when its chest was cut off again, it galloped on its head. So the boy ran away on foot and met a bull. The bull told the boy, “Ride me,” and the boy rode the bull and ran away. When the monster woman caught up with the bull and tried to tear it apart, the bull pounced on his face. While the monster woman was washing her face, the boy managed to ride the bull and run away quite a distance. Then, on his way, he found a broken piece of his father’s item, which had been left behind on the migration route, and a broken and cracked comb from his mother. As he ran away, the monster caught up with him. The boy threw a piece of his mother’s comb at the monster, which turned into a dark forest. When the monster asked how he got out of the forest, the boy said, “I ripped out my eyes and mouth and went blind.” The monster ripped out his eyes and mouth went blind and chased him away. Then, when he caught up with him again, he threw the piece of his comb at the monster, which turned into a high cliff and blocked his path. The monster asked the boy again how to cross the forest. The boy said, “I broke my legs and arms.” The monster also broke his legs and arms and chased him away. Then, when he caught up with him, he threw his mother’s broken sword, which turned into a vast ocean. The monster also asked how to cross the forest. The boy carried a stone as big as a cow on his shoulders and walked out. The monster believed him and drowned in the sea.
So, after defeating his enemy and resting, the bull asked the boy to kill him. If the boy did not kill him, he would have an itchy scalp, so he begged the boy to kill it, and the bull died. The boy cried and cried and woke up with a house, a beautiful wife, a large herd of cows and sheep, and a herd of horses and camels. (When the boy was eight years old, he moved to a new place for three years, and the boy traveled back for three years to reach his old home, and he was chased back and left in a hurry, so he probably got a wife when he was about 15 or 16 years old.)
Since his life was so good that he had nothing to lose, when his parents went home to see their father, his father was not there and his mother was crying. When his mother tells her son that his father is always bothering his mother, the son doesn’t believe her at first, but when his father comes, he hides behind a box and overhears her talking, and the father beats his mother “until a wet willow bends and a dry willow breaks.” Immediately, the son comes out and says, “Stop, stop, break my father’s head,” and hits his father on the head, killing him, and takes his mother home with him. (The little boy who played with golden and silver coins when he was young becomes the weapon to kill his father after he gets a wife. Even for his father, there was a chance to “bend” the monster woman, but to keep his promise and send his son to his death.)
A Witch had a Son
Once upon a time, a witch was always thinking about having a beautiful son. One day, the witch gave birth to her first child, a wolf. The witch said, “The first child is so-so, let’s have another child,” and the second child was a lynx.
The witch was upset and said, “A lynx is no match for a wolf. Let’s have a beautiful son now,” and the third child was a leopard. The witch ignored the leopard and gave birth to a fourth child, and a goat came out.
The witch was angry and said, “What can I do with this bad goat? Let’s have a good son now,” and the fifth child was a cat. The witch also said that the cat was a useless animal, and the sixth child was an owl.
The witch was surprised and said, “What is this? The more I gave birth the worse it became. I think I will have a beautiful son now,” and the seventh child was another owl.
The witch was very angry and vowed, “I will not have children again in this life. Nor in the next life.”
From then on, creatures that did not bear children were called “Witch-like creatures.”
Naughty Old Man
Once upon a time, there was a brown old man named Boldoggui, who had two horses: one flying and one non-flying. Once, the old man was so happy that a white lamb came out of his brown sheep that he worshiped Tengri. Then, leaving the lamb with its mother in the field and returning the sheep, a crow had already gouged out the poor lamb’s eyes. The very angry old man caught up with the crow on his flying horse pulled out its beak, and replaced it with a tree. The Tengri were angry that the crow had been harmed and sent two wolves to eat the old man’s flying horse. The old man switched the positions of the two horses and the two wolves ate the non-flying horse without realizing it. The brown old man rides his flying horse, catches the two wolves, skins them alive, and sends them away. The Tengri is in anger, sending two demons to harm the brown old man. While the old man was boiling something in the pot, two demons came and looked at him through the grate. The old man threw the pot at their faces, burning the two demons’ faces. The Tengri were very angry again and sent two dragons to kill the old man. While the old man was taking off his deel and hanging it on the pole, he went to turn the sheep, and two dragons burned the top of the mountain to ashes. Then the old man caught the two dragons and cut off their tails. Tengri was very angry and called the brown old man and questioned him. The old man defended himself by saying, “I left a lamb in the field to offer you as a sacrifice, and a crow came and punished my lamb by gouging out its eyes. Then you sent two wolves to eat my flying horse, but they ate my non-flying horse. And instead of harming me, your two demons scratching my home from outside so I burned their face. And I cut off the tails of the two dragons so that they would not bite the top of the mountain, but me.” When Tengri rethought about it, he sent the old man away, saying that he had done the right thing.
Story of a Dumb Man
Once upon a time, there was an old childless couple. The old man used to scold his wife, saying, “I have not had a child.” One day, when the old man came home from work, his wife had tied a mouse up in a blanket and placed it on his bed. When the old man came home, he asked, “What is this?” The old woman said, “I have had a child today.” The old man was very happy and said, “It is good.” He looked at the child and asked, “Why did you have a child with hair?” The old woman said, “It is ready to look after horses.” He also asked, “Why did you have a child with a tail?” The old woman replied, “It is ready to ride horses.” “Why did you have a child with a beard?” she said, “It is ready to sit on a horse.” He said, “Why did you have a child with teeth?” she said, “It is ready to eat kidneys.” The old man was very happy and took the child to wash it. Soon, the old man came in crying, saying, “I lost my child in the water.” The old woman said, “Well, what can I do now? I gave birth to a child. You will be a loser not even raising one child. Now you should not beat me in the future.” It is said that after that, the old man stopped beating his old woman.
Big Foot Kidnapped a Girl
In ancient times, the Alsha people had a custom of making a pilgrimage to Zuud every year. Because the road was long, they would camp at the foot of a snowy mountain. One year, a family on their way to worship Zuud, camped at the foot of a bloody mountain and rested their horses and camels. Then, on their way, they sent their 14-year-old daughter to fetch a camel. When the daughter reached the foot of a high mountain a big foot kidnapped her. The mother and father searched for their daughter but could not find her.
After several years, when the mourning for their daughter had subsided, another family was going to worship Zuud and was passing by a snowy mountain when a girl with full hair came running up to them. The people stopped in fear, but the girl with woolly hair said, “Don’t be afraid. I am a human. Many years ago, I was going to worship Zuud with my parents and was caught by a big footer. Today I have just escaped.”
They had heard that a family in a neighboring district had lost their daughter, so they were almost convinced by the girl’s words. The girl with woolly hair said, “Now the big foot chasing after me. Please save me.” The pilgrims hid the girl in their luggage, but when the big foot came, it could not get close to the people, it did not leave and wandered around the area and then returned to the forest. The people thought, “That big foot would never return,” and as they were leaving, the big foot came out of the forest carrying the baby big foot and showed it to its mother. As the people continued on, the big foot grabbed the baby deer by both legs, pulled it in two directions, threw one part to the mother, took the other part with himself, and went back into the mountains.
Mother Wolf
Once upon a time, there was a 120-year-old, healthy old woman who lived with her only son. One night, the son woke up and found his mother sitting by the fire, stirring something. The next day, the son went to bring his cattle and fell asleep in the pasture. Therefore he was not feeling sleepy at night and pretending to sleep at night. While he was observing his mother, the mother got up, went out, turned into a wolf on the ashes, and went on her way. While the son waited, his mother returned at dawn and turned into a human in the ashes. On the next day, the mother woke her son up and told him to bring his cattle again. The son went to lama (Monk) and told him what had happened, saying, “The wolves never eat our cattle, but they eat the cattle of our neighbors.” The lama advised the boy to bring Monk to his home. The boy took three monks to his house, and the monks began to read the mantra and burned juniper incense. When the three monks finished reading the mantra, the mother died.
Fat, Egg and Grass
Once upon a time, there was a fat, an egg, and a grasshopper who lived in a house. One day, while the three of them were cooking meat, a strong wind blew up, and their house was built. However, the grasshopper went out to build its house and was blown away by the wind. Fat and egg got tired of waiting for the grass to eat, so they went out to look for the fat and were bitten by the dog. After waiting for the egg, they had to eat alone. They took out the meat and offered it to God. When they prayed, they hit the corner of the chest and died.
In the absence of King
Once upon a time there was a king living with his three queens. One day he decided to go on a long journey. The three queens had to prepare a special gift for the king when he arrived. The first queen said that she would make him shoes with unusual stitching, the second queen said that she would make him a shirt made of kidney skin. But the third queen said that she would give birth to a son with a golden chest and a silver ass.
The king had been gone for several months, and the queens had prepared what they had been told. When the youngest queen gave birth to a son with a golden chest and a silver ass, the son was very cute, the other two queens were jealous. They stole the boy, wrapped him in a cloth, and gave him to a dog, but the dog did not eat him. So they gave him to a greedy cow and the cow ate the boy.
When the king arrived, the two queens gave their gifts, and the youngest queen sat down weeping and crying. The king was furious, so he blinded one of the youngest queen’s eyes, cut off one of her arms, broke one of her legs, and tied him to the tail of a greedy cow and sent him away. The little queen, who had become crippled, had to be dragged by the cow’s tail day and night.
Then one day, when she saw that one of her eyes was blind, she ate a root from a tree and her eyes were healed. Then a fox whose front leg had been cut off ate something and her leg was healed, she went to that place and ate that thing and her hands were healed. Then a lame rabbit dug up a root from the tree and ate it and her legs were healed. While the queen was walking happily, her mother’s cow gave birth to a son with a golden chest and a silver rump.
The little queen was very happy, but the two wicked queens found out that the boy is alive and try to kill the boy.
Then the great queen pretending to fell ill and cried, saying that she would not recover until she ate the heart of the child with a golden chest and a silver ass. The king sent messengers to all directions, and when the messengers tried to capture the youngest queen’s son, he disappeared as a rainbow. The messengers were afraid and killed a dog and gave its heart to the queen, but the queen ate it without knowing and recovered.
The boy went to the king with his mother and told the king what had happened, and the king killed the two wicked queens, then the king lived with his the youngest queen and his son all three lived happily ever after.
